In 2024 the Foundation Board had the privilege of awarding $500 grants to first and second year teachers from across the Beaufort County School District as part of the “Helping Build a Teacher’s Toolkit” initiative. The 2024 grants were partially funded through the generosity of the Wexford Charitable Foundation, the Women’s Association of Hilton Head Island (WAHHI) and Foundation board member, Deborah Colella.
When the checks were presented, the joy in these new teachers’ eyes and the excitement (of them and their students) was heartwarming. You could tell that the money represented more than just funds for their classroom. It was evident that these teachers felt like someone was in their corner as they begin their career, cheering them on and ready to support their often overlooked efforts.
The Foundation is excited to announce the opening of applications for our 2025 “Building A Teacher’s Toolkit” initiative. The application forms are easy to fill out and not quite as extensive as our Innovative grants program applications.
If you are a first or second year teacher in Beaufort County, then apply TODAY! Get creative and think of things your students may need this year and in the years to come that will enhance their classroom experience.
The supplies requested last year ranged from hygiene kits supplies for health classes to maps for middle school geography. Many of the elementary teachers wanted to purchase more educational games, puzzles, and art materials for their students. The best part is that the materials can be used for many more school years - increasing the number of students impacted by these grant funds.
The possibilities are endless! Anything that can help encourage and enhance the learning process of the students in your classroom that you may currently be lacking. It is The Foundation’s desire to support our first and second year teachers in Beaufort County through this initiative so that they want to continue on this MOST important journey of educating the future generations.
